Born into existence on May 1, 1967, the avionics shop, was a
division of Henson Aviation created to maintain the avionics in
the company's "Tristate Commuters". At the time it was a
one man operation operating out of an 8' X 12' room at the rear
of the hangar. This hangar was also the home of the
maintenance employees, office staff, counter agents, a passenger
waiting area, and Mr. Henson's office.
Within two years it was realized that there was a need for
avionics services for the general aviation
aircraft also based on the field. The avionics shop was
then expanded to a 12' X 20' room. The avionics division
still shared the hangar floor with the mechanics which forced
the techs to work outside a good part of the time.
After the expansion
to the larger shop, another tech and installer were hired.
The operation continued as such until the adjacent hangar became
available, at which time, after extensive remodeling, was to
become the home of HASI.
